Try the llama.

We went with friends to the nicest restaurant in La Paz (thankfully, this place is within walking distance of our house!).  Anne had turkey (a rare find here!) and I had the llama (and, yes, it’s pronounced “yah-mah”).  It was really good.  Did not taste like chicken.  You should try it if you get the chance. Dig this – I knew Avery, age 3, had been picking up Spanish here and there, but this was just the cat’s pajamas (click “more” to marvel at a child’s language-acquisition ability):

The rest of the story. . .

So Tom told you about our trip to to get to Coroico. I admit that at 1:00 in the morning on Saturday, I had doubts that the whole ordeal was worth it. But when we woke up (later that morning!) and saw the view, I was won over. The grounds of the hotel were wonderful, with lots of flowers, and banana and orange trees. It was great to wear shorts and a t-shirt again and to relax in the sun. It did rain some, but even that was peaceful and enjoyable to watch. We didn’t do too much while we were there, but I guess that was the point! The return trip, in the daylight, was beautiful and much less terrifying.

Check out our photos in the new album on our Facebook page (Search for Tom Fisher – Bolivia network).

Who woulda thought it would snow on the way to the jungle?

Well, we took our first family trip!  Avery, Anne and Tom packed up for the slightly-lower-altitude (and much warmer!) tropical town of Coroico.  We were all set, packed to leave at 5 p.m. (sorry – 17:00!  It’s so hard to get used to that…)

Sadly, our minibus driver-for-hire got lost and (to make a loooong story short), the company with whom we had made our travel reservations had to find another one.  Thanks be to God, they found Carlos. (more…)

Ooooh… my first Youtube video!

Hey, guys!  I am finally among the hoards who think they need to be on Youtube!  I am hoping to put some interviews with people here in La Paz (I have one done with Avery, but I have to edit it down; apparently, we are too long-winded for Youtube!  Imagine that!).  This first one is rather silly: it was done on the top of the Peabody Hotel during our orientation.  At least you’ll get to see all the Fishers and our friends Marcos and Valeria!

“La Paz Treats”

Just wanted to share a photo of my new version of Rice Krispie treats. I had a craving for them, and so Tom did his best to find the ingredients at the grocery store. He couldn’t find Rice Krispies, but they had corn flakes. There were no white marshmallows, just multi-colored ones. Soooo, this is what happens when you melt colored marshmellows and mix them with corn flakes:
La Paz Treats
They still taste good though.
