Yesterday evening, we had an extremely brief power outage. The whole building – presumably the whole block – went dark for most of dinnertime.
This was our first power outage here, definitely due to the thunderstorms that just keep popping up, seemingly at random, and ending just as suddenly during this time of the year (aptly named “the rainy season”).
Although our neighborhood in Davidson, NC had a power outage every three days (it seemed), we knew whom to call. We could always vent our frustrations on the fine people at Duke Energy and, presumably, speed up service by informing them of the outage.
Here, though it has only happened once in six months, it made us a tad nervous.
We had no clue whom to call; nor did we know how long it would be before our lights would come on. The saving grace was that the family who owns the building are old pros at life in La Paz.
The end of the story is rather anticlimactic. However, it’s another learning experience, both about the uncertainty of life in a different part of the world (you never know when you’ll suddenly be reminded of how clueless you really are) and about the certainty of God’s provision. Avery volunteered a prayer at dinner that the Father would “fix our light bulbs” and, before we had finished our soup (mmm, Anne makes good soup!), the lights were back on.
Coincidence? I think not!
We never had a reason to worry in the first place. Nice.
