The Fishers in La Paz, Bolivia

Life in La Paz

I haven’t blogged much in awhile, so I thought I’d give a general update on life right now. We have running water all the time now, so that makes me quite happy. It took awhile for things to get moving here once we returned to La Paz because no one wants to start anything (including Bolivian schools) before Carnaval. Now our weeks are pretty full. Tom tutors our two neighbor girls that live upstairs once a week, and I am meeting with a Spanish tutor once a week. It’s helping me quite a bit, but I have a very long way to go. . . Avery has started ballet class again, and thankfully her teacher is woman of great patience and perseverance. My women’s Bible study will also start up again this week. We are in a fun Sunday routine now with our early church service. We finish by 10:00, so we go to breakfast at one of two open “gringo” type restaurants in the neighborhood, usually with friends from church. Avery loves the cinnamon roll at one of our haunts, so it was a sad day yesterday when our friends unknowingly purchased and ate the last cinnamon roll the restaurant had before we got to order. Avery handled the disappointment fairly well though.

I’m including a couple pictures:

I spend a great deal of time these days watching Avery change into various dress-up clothes. She and her friend Abby HAD to get into princess gear before having mac and cheese.

I finally finished one of my major projects at school this year, reorganizing our library. I know this picture doesn’t look like much, but we had two rooms full of books in disarray. It took many hours to sort and alphabetize all our books. Tom helped out a lot. The children can now actually visit the library on a weekly basis and check out books to take home. We have a wonderful parent volunteer who handles the check-out process.

We’re very excited that my mom is arriving on Friday, so I’m sure we’ll post photos and stories of her trip here. We have a new sofacamma (hide-a-bed), so anyone is welcome to come on down for a visit!

Talked to Nana today and she is rushing around getting everything ready for her visit. Seems quite excited.
It is snowing in KY as I write.
