Eucharist

We had Community Group last night.  Our fifth.  Tons of new people.  Curry chicken (which, for those few who went vegetarian for Lent, was an unforseen bummer) and tons of great fixins.  We gathered, sang “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” and the Gloria by John Michael Talbot, as well as some “Hosanna-y” songs of praise.  This was followed by the traditional “bring your own worship” segment (otherwise known as “stump the band”; I’m the band.  They stumped me a whole bunch!).  Afterward, folks broke off into small groups, discussed their walk with Christ, and lifted each other up in prayer.

But here’s the kicker: this month, we celebrated the Eucharist!  It was the most interdenominational, can’t-quite-pin-it-down Communion I’ve ever been part of.  The bread was little dinner rolls (that had little crosses on them) and the “wine” was the local grape juice (vintage 2007 or 2008).  We had a beautiful chalice and plate set, along with the little plastic cups that Baptists like.  Some people intincted (that’s dipping the bread in the wine… er, juice), some drank.  All worshiped and met with Jesus.

I just love Community Group, when the Body of Christ can just get together, eat a good meal, include the kids in songs and prayers and get everybody around God’s word and His table.  These messy gatherings, sans babysitting or videotaped experts, is what keeps us, and the Church, alive.
